Axis
- Corporate
- 7,000 sqft
- Enhancement of user experience
KKS was commissioned to design the new corporate interior for Axis when they moved to 7,000 sqft in 20 Gracechurch Street.
The Gracechurch building views are impressive and Axis wanted to enhance the interior experience for both visitors and occupants alike, so KKS devised a space planning strategy to enhance vistas towards Canary Wharf and the London Eye. Reaching the 12th floor, visitors are provided with a stunning framed view of St Paul’s through curved reception glazing.
The open-plan areas have been strategically located to give the workforce panoramic views over the City skyline. The perimeter cellular offices have floor-to-ceiling glass partitions, to maintain the 180-degree vista. The barrel vault ceiling stretches across the floor and, at the end, a bespoke bench spans the width of the floor-to-ceiling window, providing a place to stop and a strategic visual barrier to the expansive glazing. Upholstered sections provide a perch to enjoy the spectacular London view and an informal meeting space.
The only fully enclosed spaces are designed to offer a new perception of an existing view, for example, the staff dining area door frames a view of St Paul’s, providing a different perspective to that given on the open-plan floors. As part of the enhanced visitor experience, and to not to detract from the user’s own experience, two dedicated meeting rooms, a 12-seat boardroom, and 6-seat meeting room are located in the narrower depth of floorplate with dramatic, urban views.
Colour palette and materials evolved from those at the Plantation Place HQ, from the limestone flooring in the reception to the light timber of the door frames that float within the cellular office partitions.
