Baker McKenzie LLP

AWARD FINALIST

Baker McKenzie, one of the leading global law firms, is on a journey to define their accommodation and workplace strategy requirements as part of a working methods pilot in advance of the lease expiry on the current premises in 2023.

KKS completed Phase 1A: a review of Baker McKenzie’s long-term strategy. Phase 2 was in two parts: moving the Business Services team of 147 employees to a swing space at 5 Fleet Place followed by designing Baker McKenzie’s new ‘Proof of Concept’ space on Level 4, 100 New Bridge Street (100 NBS).

KKS migrated the Corporate team consisting of 215 employees to this new ‘Proof of Concept’ space on Level 4, combining the team from their previous levels on 7 & 8. They have moved from predominantly fixed cellular offices to an open-plan and agile environment, providing them with variety and a choice of work settings. Moving the team from two floors to a single floor has increased collaboration and communication.

The team is trialling a ‘parlour concept’, consisting of open-plan sections divided by acoustics and planting, pinwheels with collaboration tables, and clusters with low dividing screens. Breakout areas, social spaces and agile furniture all contribute to new ways of working and the use of colour gives a comfortable, relaxed environment.
