Burges Salmon

AWARD FINALIST

Burges Salmon’s decision to open a new office in Edinburgh during 2019 was taken in response to the needs of its clients and aimed to demonstrate the firm’s continued commitment to the Scottish market, in alignment with the firm’s key sector strategy.

KKS was asked to design a high quality, modern, collaborative working environment that would be flexible for Burges Salmon’s growing needs over the coming years. The new office was to provide meeting space for clients consistent with those in the firm’s Bristol and London premises and accommodate workstations for up to 40 people.

The open plan work area is complemented by a wide variety of study pods for quiet working or confidential calls, meeting booths and communal areas. The design addressed concerns such as confidentiality, noise and visual distraction. Edinburgh delivers on the design principle that a workspace should be fit for specific purposes, not that one space should fit all.

The configuration has delighted lawyers and support staff equally, initiating a new, collaborative and engaged experience. Final proof that an uplifting, enjoyable workspace has had a positive business impact has been its influence in attracting high-calibre local partners and lawyers to the new practice.

Shortlisted in the British Council of Offices Awards 2020 in the category of ‘Projects under 1500m2 (Scotland).
