Lloyd’s Register’s Southampton Global Technology Centre at Hampshire House reflects its commitment to providing new, agile ways of working on a highly efficient and flexible floorplate.

As a significant facility within its Global Transformation Programme, this project represents a lot of “firsts” for Lloyd’s Register, which automatically makes it stand out from its offices worldwide.

At 21,000 sq ft, it is the first scheme of its size, the first to feature a wide variety of agile work settings and spaces which support collaboration and new ways of working and the first to incorporate a Digital Suite – enhancing its global operations.

Placing senior stakeholders and employees at the heart of the design and construction process delivered a wealth of benefits to the ownership and relocation process, and together with a series of quality measures, has achieved a stunning HQ they can be proud of.

This project ultimately demonstrates how a purposeful design and fit out of a 1980s floorplate can achieve a long-lasting space that supports a future-focused organisation.

Lloyds Register

Everything is anchored by the central social hub – Bramble Sandbar, which is connected to the reception area. It’s a space where everybody can come together. The social hub is a significant part of the floor plate. It takes up nearly an entire quadrant. It has not been designed for a specific use and serves as a collaboration space too.

At seven metres long, the shipping containers are the stand-out feature,
which makes the design scheme and fit-out so different. Made to replicate real-life shipping containers in striking yellow, they are a central hub for collaborative working with booth seating and also provide a spot for privacy, with an integrated pod for quiet working.
