1-3 Frederick’s Place, London
Asset management consultancy, MJ Hudson, selected three historic townhouses in the heart of the City for their new London headquarters, to sustain their continued growth. Savills Workplace & Design was appointed to integrate and fit out the three buildings, creating a contemporary agile-ready workplace over 7 floors, whilst respecting the buildings’ history, heritage and character.
The three Grade II listed buildings at 1-3 Frederick’s Place have been connected, physically and through imaginative design, resulting in one contiguous workplace, creating a beautiful interior and effective workplace appropriate for MJ Hudson’s brand and sector standing.
The 160 employees were central to every aspect of the design; Savills Workplace & Design created a dynamic, invigorating space to enjoy, feel safe and comfortable in and be proud of, and the finished design embodies a sense of collaboration and community. Art is a central focus, with the integration of legacy pieces across amenity spaces.
The practical completion of the project was achieved during, and despite, the national lockdown. As offices are competing with home comforts post-pandemic, it is workplaces like this that people will want to come back to.
To create a calm and light contemporary aesthetic, the palette is simple and neutral, with a soft base of grey and white. This was supplemented by accent powdery pastel colours on each floor, using a late 18th-century palette. These accents were selected to synchronise with the MJ Hudson brand. This provided each floor with a distinct identity and aided navigation and way-finding.
The colour combination creates a contemporary ambience, with discreet reference to the 18th-century character of the building. The main palette, and certain design elements, transcended all floors, to ensure
a consistent aesthetic across the space, for both client and staff-facing spaces.
Simultaneously balancing references to the building’s eighteenth century history with our 2020 business needs, Savills Workplace & Design created an elegant space that is full of character. The team at Savills Workplace & Design understood us both thematically and emotionally and our interest in the history of the building and expertly guided us throughout the entire process, making the transition to our new offices seamless even during our move in partial lock-down! Their enthusiasm for the project was infectious, resulting in a beautiful design to support MJ Hudson into the next phase of our growth.
